Per <R5>:
<R5> Robots may be built ONLY from Official Robot Components from the VEX Robotics Design System unless otherwise specifically noted within these rules.

Please note, you can find most of these parts here:
http://www.vexrobotics.com/product-accessories.shtml

Per <R7>:
<R7> Robots are allowed the following additional "non-VEX" components:

Any material strictly used as a color filter for a VEX Light Sensor.
Any parts which are identical to legal VEX parts.
Teams may add non-functional decorations provided that these do not affect the robot performance in any significant way or affect the outcome of the match. These decorations must be in the spirit of the competition. Inspectors will have final say in what is considered "non-functional".
Any non-aerosol based grease, when used in extreme moderation on surfaces and locations that do NOT come into contact with the playing field walls, foam field surface, game objects, or other robots.

This rule does not allow for rubber-bands or zip-ties, but since VEX sells these, you are allowed to use VEX rubber-bands & zip-ties or anything identical to these products, per <R5>.

In the future if you have a question of this type, please read the robot rules before asking on the Q&A. This forum is for rule clarifications.
