well if you are not going to use it in comp. then you can use rubberbands to hold it then a motor to let go.

i want to know if i can use it in competition though. it will be tethered, so... i'm not going to like shoot another robot and winch him in or anything, lol

acctually you could use rubberbands in the FVC comp
and it would more than likely legal.

Nothing relating to FVC rules stated on this forum is official.

For official FVC rules please consult the FVC Game Manual which is posted here:
http://www.usfirst.org/vex/resources/

If you need clarification on a rule, please refer all questions to the official FVC Q&A forum, which is found here:

Chances are it wouldn't be legal(the launcher) The judges would view a potential for someone to accidently get shot or hurt. You can go ahead and try it though.

It would be legal as long as
1) The object does not become detatched from the robot at any time. Otherwise it is then a shooting 'weapon'.
2) It does not damage the field, entangle with another robot, or damage another robot.

You really have to be careful with that entanglement part, because I could see that happeneing very easily, and it would look fairly intentional, since you just shot something off of your robot.

Good luck, post some pics/vids if you do it!

So you mean a harpoon kinda thing with the nylon rope. Ill try it, maybe i could mount it on my tank tracked thing that is in the Gallery.

They used a ping pong ball shooter on a bot on the Vexlabs site.

I would be careful on what you use to launch the projectile. Pneumatic actuators are not competition legal even though they are Vex made parts. (unless I am mistaken, I am almost positive they are illegal.)

Just because they shot a ping-pong ball doesn't make it legal for FVC. I think this will be seen as intentional endangerment to other robots because you are shooting something.

The Vex pneumatics are illegal for the Hangin' a Round challenge, but there have been rumors of them being allowed next year. But that is a rumor it is not official.

Yes, please, I'd like some pneumatics with my rack-and-pinion gears.

How will you use them you would have full lock in either direction.

I've seen a video of a robot that used a grapple hook to hang from the bar... the video didn't show the shooting part, but I think it'd be safe to assume it was somehow shot up there.
