Dude, I know you think you'll find a lot of help here but in a way you need to be more specific. What do you have built already what are your plans. There are many different ways to hang. A lot of them involves using a moveable arm. Work with your teamates and develope a plan. Then keep upgradeing it tills it work well.

i would suggest using a geared down winch; strong and effective.

First, carefully read the definition of "hang" in the rules.
If I remember correctly, it is
1. touch the bar, including all elbows, couplers, feet, verticals
2. do not touch the foam floor or the rotating platform plywood.
Also check the size definition, you have to fit in the 18" box to start,
but you can extend an arm or whatever outside the box once the match
starts. There are a few pictures posted here or on chiefdelphi, of hanging robots, and they usually show an extended hook-arm.
I proposed
1) clamp onto the vertical bar and lift your wheels
2) touch the bar, sit on a softball and lift your wheels
3) hug the vertical the bar and press down on the flange fixture to lift your wheels.
These method may have an advantage in that you can do them from off the platform, so a platform defender may not realize to or be able to push you off.
Climbing ontop of another robot (like your alliance partner) also counts.
I've not seen any pictures with my suggestions for out of the box ideas;
(if someone builds one, please post a picture of it in action!)

i'd like to add to these ideas:
touch the bar sitting on the atlas ball
but as for your question go to the robots section of vexlabs.com, it has alot of pictures of a competion 2 years ago that involved hanging.

My team 816 used an elevator using chain that goes up a hooks on the bar and hangs we are capaple of getting 5-12 inches off the ground
One of the teams in New Jersey Pulled off what may have been that awsomest hang in history they drove up to the side of the bar hooked on pulled on the bar until their robot was perpandicular to the ground at the end their robot slid down and sat on the bar flandge and it counted
